Dermaplaning is an anti aging skin treatment that minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. It is a safe and highly effective form of exfoliating the skin. Exfoliation of the top layers of dead skin and vellus hair (peach fuzz) is achieved using a sterile blade on the face. The process of our procedure at Wondermedspa will be to prep the skin, then perform dermaplaning, then an enzyme peel is used to help push vitamins back into the skin. After we steam the skin and do some extractions we end with an oxygen mask to brighten and even out the skin tone.

Is dermaplaning painful?
Not at all, it may feel a little scratchy in certain areas but there is no pain and it is completely safe!

Is there any downtime with dermaplaning?
There is no downtime with dermaplaning. It can be done during work hours or even on a lunch break. The skin may appear a little red with some tiny scrapes in the skin but nothing that is drastic.

How often can you do dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is recommended to be done every four weeks. The cell turnover rate for skin is every 28 days. So it is important to remove dead skin.

Is dermaplaning safe to do on all skin types?
In general dermaplaning is safe for all skin types. However, if you are experiencing active acne breakouts all over the face or active rosacea flare ups then it is best to avoid a dermaplaning treatment until the skin is healed.

Does dermaplaning cause hair on the face to grow back thicker?
Absolutely not! It only removes the outer layer of skin and hair on the face. It can not cause hair growth on the face because the hair follicle is not affected.

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a procedure that improves the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, loss of firmness, brown spots and stretch marks by stimulating the skin’s natural ability to repair itself.  A device with tiny, sharp needles is used to create hundreds of micro-channels in the skin.  This process triggers the skin to release growth factors and cytokines, producing more collagen and elastin, resulting in younger looking skin.

During a treatment, the skin is first numbed using a topical OTC anesthetic cream that keeps the client comfortable during the procedure. The micro-needle glides effortlessly over the skin with the use of topical serums like Hyaluronic acid or Rich plasma platelets (PRP) to create a glide on the skin’s surface.  This is what makes microneedling preferable to many of the ablative treatments available which destroy the top layer of the skin.  The channels close up very quickly so there is minimal risk of infection or hyperpigmentation (brown spots).
